Vishakha Chandrashtama Days 2026-2027: Dates & Times

Chandrashtama is read two ways. By Janma Rasi, people born in Vishakha follow the Thulam Rasi window, when the Moon passes through the 8th sign from Thulam. Tamil daily panchangams also mark it by star: the day the Moon is in Mrigashira, the 17th star from Vishakha. This page lists both, for every month of 2026 and 2027.

Vishakha nakshatra, which falls under the Thulam Rasi used for its Chandrashtama dates

Vishakha sits in the Thulam Rasi, so the rasi window below is the Thulam one; the star-level day is the Moon in Mrigashira.

Vishakha Nature: Represents ambition, multiple goals, and focused determination.

Deity: Indra-Agni

Mrigashira starts inside Rishabam, the sign the Moon occupies during this rasi window, and runs a few degrees past its end. So for Vishakha the star-level day begins inside the rasi window and carries on for about 11 hours after it closes; those extra hours are flagged only by star-based calendars.

Vishakha spans two rasis, so the rasi window depends on your pada. Padas 1, 2, 3 belong to Thulam and the tables below use its dates; if you were born in pada 4, your Janma Rasi is Vrichigam, so pick that pada above for Vrichigam's dates. The star-level day is the same for every pada. Measured against Vrichigam's window, the star-level day for pada 4: starts 11 h before the rasi window.

Tarabalam for Vishakha

Tarabalam rates any day by the star the Moon is in, counted from Vishakha. The count repeats every nine stars, so each of the nine taras comes from three Moon stars. Check the day's star in any panchangam and read its tara below.

  1. Janma (not good): when the Moon is in Vishakha, Purva Bhadrapada and Punarvasu; the Moon is back in your own star; keep the day light.
  2. Sampat (very good): when the Moon is in Anuradha, Uttara Bhadrapada and Pushya; wealth and gains.
  3. Vipat (bad): when the Moon is in Jyeshtha, Revati and Ashlesha; obstacles and losses.
  4. Kshema (good): when the Moon is in Mula, Ashwini and Magha; well-being and safety.
  5. Pratyak (not good): when the Moon is in Purva Ashadha, Bharani and Purva Phalguni; opposition and friction.
  6. Sadhaka (very good): when the Moon is in Uttara Ashadha, Krittika and Uttara Phalguni; achievement; good for starting work.
  7. Naidhana (totally bad): when the Moon is in Shravana, Rohini and Hasta; the weakest tara; avoid new beginnings.
  8. Mitra (good): when the Moon is in Dhanishta, Mrigashira and Chitra; friendship and support.
  9. Parama Mitra (good): when the Moon is in Shatabhisha, Ardra and Swati; the closest support.

During the rasi Chandrashtama window the tara for Vishakha is Sadhaka, Naidhana, Mitra, the same every month.

How these times are calculated

All times are in IST, computed from the Moon's sidereal position with the Lahiri ayanamsa: the Thirukanitha method, the same basis Drik Panchang uses. Vakya panchangams, which many Tamil calendars still print, can differ by around 30 minutes at a star change. Days here run midnight to midnight; panchangams that start the day at sunrise show early-morning changes under the previous date.

Vishakha Chandrashtama: common questions

Is Vishakha's Chandrashtama the same as Chitra's?

By rasi, yes: both follow the Thulam Rasi window. By star, no: Tamil panchangams list Vishakha when the Moon is in Mrigashira and Chitra when it is in Krittika, so their star-level days fall about a day apart inside or next to that window.

Why does my calendar show Vishakha under Chandrashtama on only one day?

Daily panchangams list Chandrashtama by star: the day's entry names the stars whose 17th star the Moon is in. Vishakha appears while the Moon is in Mrigashira, about a day, whereas the Thulam Rasi window lasts about two and a quarter days.

Which Moon stars are weakest for Vishakha?

Naidhana tara, the weakest, comes when the Moon is in Shravana, Rohini and Hasta. Vipat (Jyeshtha, Revati and Ashlesha) and Pratyak (Purva Ashadha, Bharani and Purva Phalguni) are also unfavourable for starting new work.
