Uttara Ashadha Chandrashtama Days 2026-2027: Dates & Times
Chandrashtama is read two ways. By Janma Rasi, people born in Uttara Ashadha follow the Makaram Rasi window, when the Moon passes through the 8th sign from Makaram. Tamil daily panchangams also mark it by star: the day the Moon is in Magha, the 17th star from Uttara Ashadha. This page lists both, for every month of 2026 and 2027.

Uttara Ashadha sits in the Makaram Rasi, so the rasi window below is the Makaram one; the star-level day is the Moon in Magha.
Uttara Ashadha Nature: Focused on universal truth, virtue, and long-lasting success.

Magha lies wholly inside Simmam, the sign the Moon occupies during this rasi window. So for Uttara Ashadha the two methods never disagree: the star-level day always falls within the rasi window and narrows it from about two and a quarter days to about one.
Uttara Ashadha spans two rasis, so the rasi window depends on your pada. Padas 2, 3, 4 belong to Makaram and the tables below use its dates; if you were born in pada 1, your Janma Rasi is Dhanusu, so pick that pada above for Dhanusu's dates. The star-level day is the same for every pada. Measured against Dhanusu's window, the star-level day for pada 1: begins as the rasi window ends.

Tarabalam for Uttara Ashadha
Tarabalam rates any day by the star the Moon is in, counted from Uttara Ashadha. The count repeats every nine stars, so each of the nine taras comes from three Moon stars. Check the day's star in any panchangam and read its tara below.
- Janma (not good): when the Moon is in Uttara Ashadha, Krittika and Uttara Phalguni; the Moon is back in your own star; keep the day light.
- Sampat (very good): when the Moon is in Shravana, Rohini and Hasta; wealth and gains.
- Vipat (bad): when the Moon is in Dhanishta, Mrigashira and Chitra; obstacles and losses.
- Kshema (good): when the Moon is in Shatabhisha, Ardra and Swati; well-being and safety.
- Pratyak (not good): when the Moon is in Purva Bhadrapada, Punarvasu and Vishakha; opposition and friction.
- Sadhaka (very good): when the Moon is in Uttara Bhadrapada, Pushya and Anuradha; achievement; good for starting work.
- Naidhana (totally bad): when the Moon is in Revati, Ashlesha and Jyeshtha; the weakest tara; avoid new beginnings.
- Mitra (good): when the Moon is in Ashwini, Magha and Mula; friendship and support.
- Parama Mitra (good): when the Moon is in Bharani, Purva Phalguni and Purva Ashadha; the closest support.
During the rasi Chandrashtama window the tara for Uttara Ashadha is Mitra, Parama Mitra, Janma, the same every month.
How these times are calculated
All times are in IST, computed from the Moon's sidereal position with the Lahiri ayanamsa: the Thirukanitha method, the same basis Drik Panchang uses. Vakya panchangams, which many Tamil calendars still print, can differ by around 30 minutes at a star change. Days here run midnight to midnight; panchangams that start the day at sunrise show early-morning changes under the previous date.
Read our editorial policyUttara Ashadha Chandrashtama: common questions
Is Uttara Ashadha's Chandrashtama the same as Shravana's?
By rasi, yes: both follow the Makaram Rasi window. By star, no: Tamil panchangams list Uttara Ashadha when the Moon is in Magha and Shravana when it is in Purva Phalguni, so their star-level days fall about a day apart inside or next to that window.
Why does my calendar show Uttara Ashadha under Chandrashtama on only one day?
Daily panchangams list Chandrashtama by star: the day's entry names the stars whose 17th star the Moon is in. Uttara Ashadha appears while the Moon is in Magha, about a day, whereas the Makaram Rasi window lasts about two and a quarter days.
Which Moon stars are weakest for Uttara Ashadha?
Naidhana tara, the weakest, comes when the Moon is in Revati, Ashlesha and Jyeshtha. Vipat (Dhanishta, Mrigashira and Chitra) and Pratyak (Purva Bhadrapada, Punarvasu and Vishakha) are also unfavourable for starting new work.
