Swati Chandrashtama Days 2026-2027: Dates & Times
Chandrashtama is read two ways. By Janma Rasi, people born in Swati follow the Thulam Rasi window, when the Moon passes through the 8th sign from Thulam. Tamil daily panchangams also mark it by star: the day the Moon is in Rohini, the 17th star from Swati. This page lists both, for every month of 2026 and 2027.

Swati sits in the Thulam Rasi, so the rasi window below is the Thulam one; the star-level day is the Moon in Rohini.
Swati Nature: Symbolizes independence, adaptability, and the freedom of the wind.
Deity: Vayu

Rohini lies wholly inside Rishabam, the sign the Moon occupies during this rasi window. So for Swati the two methods never disagree: the star-level day always falls within the rasi window and narrows it from about two and a quarter days to about one.

Tarabalam for Swati
Tarabalam rates any day by the star the Moon is in, counted from Swati. The count repeats every nine stars, so each of the nine taras comes from three Moon stars. Check the day's star in any panchangam and read its tara below.
- Janma (not good): when the Moon is in Swati, Shatabhisha and Ardra; the Moon is back in your own star; keep the day light.
- Sampat (very good): when the Moon is in Vishakha, Purva Bhadrapada and Punarvasu; wealth and gains.
- Vipat (bad): when the Moon is in Anuradha, Uttara Bhadrapada and Pushya; obstacles and losses.
- Kshema (good): when the Moon is in Jyeshtha, Revati and Ashlesha; well-being and safety.
- Pratyak (not good): when the Moon is in Mula, Ashwini and Magha; opposition and friction.
- Sadhaka (very good): when the Moon is in Purva Ashadha, Bharani and Purva Phalguni; achievement; good for starting work.
- Naidhana (totally bad): when the Moon is in Uttara Ashadha, Krittika and Uttara Phalguni; the weakest tara; avoid new beginnings.
- Mitra (good): when the Moon is in Shravana, Rohini and Hasta; friendship and support.
- Parama Mitra (good): when the Moon is in Dhanishta, Mrigashira and Chitra; the closest support.
During the rasi Chandrashtama window the tara for Swati is Naidhana, Mitra, Parama Mitra, the same every month.
How these times are calculated
All times are in IST, computed from the Moon's sidereal position with the Lahiri ayanamsa: the Thirukanitha method, the same basis Drik Panchang uses. Vakya panchangams, which many Tamil calendars still print, can differ by around 30 minutes at a star change. Days here run midnight to midnight; panchangams that start the day at sunrise show early-morning changes under the previous date.
Read our editorial policySwati Chandrashtama: common questions
Is Swati's Chandrashtama the same as Chitra's?
By rasi, yes: both follow the Thulam Rasi window. By star, no: Tamil panchangams list Swati when the Moon is in Rohini and Chitra when it is in Krittika, so their star-level days fall about a day apart inside or next to that window.
Why does my calendar show Swati under Chandrashtama on only one day?
Daily panchangams list Chandrashtama by star: the day's entry names the stars whose 17th star the Moon is in. Swati appears while the Moon is in Rohini, about a day, whereas the Thulam Rasi window lasts about two and a quarter days.
Which Moon stars are weakest for Swati?
Naidhana tara, the weakest, comes when the Moon is in Uttara Ashadha, Krittika and Uttara Phalguni. Vipat (Anuradha, Uttara Bhadrapada and Pushya) and Pratyak (Mula, Ashwini and Magha) are also unfavourable for starting new work.
