Shravana Chandrashtama Days 2026-2027: Dates & Times
Chandrashtama is read two ways. By Janma Rasi, people born in Shravana follow the Makaram Rasi window, when the Moon passes through the 8th sign from Makaram. Tamil daily panchangams also mark it by star: the day the Moon is in Purva Phalguni, the 17th star from Shravana. This page lists both, for every month of 2026 and 2027.

Shravana sits in the Makaram Rasi, so the rasi window below is the Makaram one; the star-level day is the Moon in Purva Phalguni.
Shravana Nature: The star of listening, wisdom, and organized knowledge.
Deity: Vishnu

Purva Phalguni lies wholly inside Simmam, the sign the Moon occupies during this rasi window. So for Shravana the two methods never disagree: the star-level day always falls within the rasi window and narrows it from about two and a quarter days to about one.

Tarabalam for Shravana
Tarabalam rates any day by the star the Moon is in, counted from Shravana. The count repeats every nine stars, so each of the nine taras comes from three Moon stars. Check the day's star in any panchangam and read its tara below.
- Janma (not good): when the Moon is in Shravana, Rohini and Hasta; the Moon is back in your own star; keep the day light.
- Sampat (very good): when the Moon is in Dhanishta, Mrigashira and Chitra; wealth and gains.
- Vipat (bad): when the Moon is in Shatabhisha, Ardra and Swati; obstacles and losses.
- Kshema (good): when the Moon is in Purva Bhadrapada, Punarvasu and Vishakha; well-being and safety.
- Pratyak (not good): when the Moon is in Uttara Bhadrapada, Pushya and Anuradha; opposition and friction.
- Sadhaka (very good): when the Moon is in Revati, Ashlesha and Jyeshtha; achievement; good for starting work.
- Naidhana (totally bad): when the Moon is in Ashwini, Magha and Mula; the weakest tara; avoid new beginnings.
- Mitra (good): when the Moon is in Bharani, Purva Phalguni and Purva Ashadha; friendship and support.
- Parama Mitra (good): when the Moon is in Krittika, Uttara Phalguni and Uttara Ashadha; the closest support.
During the rasi Chandrashtama window the tara for Shravana is Naidhana, Mitra, Parama Mitra, the same every month.
How these times are calculated
All times are in IST, computed from the Moon's sidereal position with the Lahiri ayanamsa: the Thirukanitha method, the same basis Drik Panchang uses. Vakya panchangams, which many Tamil calendars still print, can differ by around 30 minutes at a star change. Days here run midnight to midnight; panchangams that start the day at sunrise show early-morning changes under the previous date.
Read our editorial policyShravana Chandrashtama: common questions
Is Shravana's Chandrashtama the same as Uttara Ashadha's?
By rasi, yes: both follow the Makaram Rasi window. By star, no: Tamil panchangams list Shravana when the Moon is in Purva Phalguni and Uttara Ashadha when it is in Magha, so their star-level days fall about a day apart inside or next to that window.
Why does my calendar show Shravana under Chandrashtama on only one day?
Daily panchangams list Chandrashtama by star: the day's entry names the stars whose 17th star the Moon is in. Shravana appears while the Moon is in Purva Phalguni, about a day, whereas the Makaram Rasi window lasts about two and a quarter days.
Which Moon stars are weakest for Shravana?
Naidhana tara, the weakest, comes when the Moon is in Ashwini, Magha and Mula. Vipat (Shatabhisha, Ardra and Swati) and Pratyak (Uttara Bhadrapada, Pushya and Anuradha) are also unfavourable for starting new work.
