Krittika Chandrashtama Days 2026-2027: Dates & Times
Chandrashtama is read two ways. By Janma Rasi, people born in Krittika follow the Rishabam Rasi window, when the Moon passes through the 8th sign from Rishabam. Tamil daily panchangams also mark it by star: the day the Moon is in Mula, the 17th star from Krittika. This page lists both, for every month of 2026 and 2027.

Krittika sits in the Rishabam Rasi, so the rasi window below is the Rishabam one; the star-level day is the Moon in Mula.
Krittika Nature: Represents purification, sharpness, and a direct, fiery nature.

Mula lies wholly inside Dhanusu, the sign the Moon occupies during this rasi window. So for Krittika the two methods never disagree: the star-level day always falls within the rasi window and narrows it from about two and a quarter days to about one.
Krittika spans two rasis, so the rasi window depends on your pada. Padas 2, 3, 4 belong to Rishabam and the tables below use its dates; if you were born in pada 1, your Janma Rasi is Mesha, so pick that pada above for Mesha's dates. The star-level day is the same for every pada. Measured against Mesha's window, the star-level day for pada 1: begins as the rasi window ends.

Tarabalam for Krittika
Tarabalam rates any day by the star the Moon is in, counted from Krittika. The count repeats every nine stars, so each of the nine taras comes from three Moon stars. Check the day's star in any panchangam and read its tara below.
- Janma (not good): when the Moon is in Krittika, Uttara Phalguni and Uttara Ashadha; the Moon is back in your own star; keep the day light.
- Sampat (very good): when the Moon is in Rohini, Hasta and Shravana; wealth and gains.
- Vipat (bad): when the Moon is in Mrigashira, Chitra and Dhanishta; obstacles and losses.
- Kshema (good): when the Moon is in Ardra, Swati and Shatabhisha; well-being and safety.
- Pratyak (not good): when the Moon is in Punarvasu, Vishakha and Purva Bhadrapada; opposition and friction.
- Sadhaka (very good): when the Moon is in Pushya, Anuradha and Uttara Bhadrapada; achievement; good for starting work.
- Naidhana (totally bad): when the Moon is in Ashlesha, Jyeshtha and Revati; the weakest tara; avoid new beginnings.
- Mitra (good): when the Moon is in Magha, Mula and Ashwini; friendship and support.
- Parama Mitra (good): when the Moon is in Purva Phalguni, Purva Ashadha and Bharani; the closest support.
During the rasi Chandrashtama window the tara for Krittika is Mitra, Parama Mitra, Janma, the same every month.
How these times are calculated
All times are in IST, computed from the Moon's sidereal position with the Lahiri ayanamsa: the Thirukanitha method, the same basis Drik Panchang uses. Vakya panchangams, which many Tamil calendars still print, can differ by around 30 minutes at a star change. Days here run midnight to midnight; panchangams that start the day at sunrise show early-morning changes under the previous date.
Read our editorial policyKrittika Chandrashtama: common questions
Is Krittika's Chandrashtama the same as Rohini's?
By rasi, yes: both follow the Rishabam Rasi window. By star, no: Tamil panchangams list Krittika when the Moon is in Mula and Rohini when it is in Purva Ashadha, so their star-level days fall about a day apart inside or next to that window.
Why does my calendar show Krittika under Chandrashtama on only one day?
Daily panchangams list Chandrashtama by star: the day's entry names the stars whose 17th star the Moon is in. Krittika appears while the Moon is in Mula, about a day, whereas the Rishabam Rasi window lasts about two and a quarter days.
Which Moon stars are weakest for Krittika?
Naidhana tara, the weakest, comes when the Moon is in Ashlesha, Jyeshtha and Revati. Vipat (Mrigashira, Chitra and Dhanishta) and Pratyak (Punarvasu, Vishakha and Purva Bhadrapada) are also unfavourable for starting new work.
