Jyeshtha Chandrashtama Days 2026-2027: Dates & Times

Chandrashtama is read two ways. By Janma Rasi, people born in Jyeshtha follow the Vrichigam Rasi window, when the Moon passes through the 8th sign from Vrichigam. Tamil daily panchangams also mark it by star: the day the Moon is in Punarvasu, the 17th star from Jyeshtha. This page lists both, for every month of 2026 and 2027.

Jyeshtha nakshatra, which falls under the Vrichigam Rasi used for its Chandrashtama dates

Jyeshtha sits in the Vrichigam Rasi, so the rasi window below is the Vrichigam one; the star-level day is the Moon in Punarvasu.

Jyeshtha Nature: Represents seniority, protection, and master of the senses.

Deity: Indra

Punarvasu starts inside Midhunam, the sign the Moon occupies during this rasi window, and runs a few degrees past its end. So for Jyeshtha the star-level day begins inside the rasi window and carries on for about 6 hours after it closes; those extra hours are flagged only by star-based calendars.

Tarabalam for Jyeshtha

Tarabalam rates any day by the star the Moon is in, counted from Jyeshtha. The count repeats every nine stars, so each of the nine taras comes from three Moon stars. Check the day's star in any panchangam and read its tara below.

  1. Janma (not good): when the Moon is in Jyeshtha, Revati and Ashlesha; the Moon is back in your own star; keep the day light.
  2. Sampat (very good): when the Moon is in Mula, Ashwini and Magha; wealth and gains.
  3. Vipat (bad): when the Moon is in Purva Ashadha, Bharani and Purva Phalguni; obstacles and losses.
  4. Kshema (good): when the Moon is in Uttara Ashadha, Krittika and Uttara Phalguni; well-being and safety.
  5. Pratyak (not good): when the Moon is in Shravana, Rohini and Hasta; opposition and friction.
  6. Sadhaka (very good): when the Moon is in Dhanishta, Mrigashira and Chitra; achievement; good for starting work.
  7. Naidhana (totally bad): when the Moon is in Shatabhisha, Ardra and Swati; the weakest tara; avoid new beginnings.
  8. Mitra (good): when the Moon is in Purva Bhadrapada, Punarvasu and Vishakha; friendship and support.
  9. Parama Mitra (good): when the Moon is in Uttara Bhadrapada, Pushya and Anuradha; the closest support.

During the rasi Chandrashtama window the tara for Jyeshtha is Sadhaka, Naidhana, Mitra, the same every month.

How these times are calculated

All times are in IST, computed from the Moon's sidereal position with the Lahiri ayanamsa: the Thirukanitha method, the same basis Drik Panchang uses. Vakya panchangams, which many Tamil calendars still print, can differ by around 30 minutes at a star change. Days here run midnight to midnight; panchangams that start the day at sunrise show early-morning changes under the previous date.

Jyeshtha Chandrashtama: common questions

Is Jyeshtha's Chandrashtama the same as Vishakha's?

By rasi, yes: both follow the Vrichigam Rasi window. By star, no: Tamil panchangams list Jyeshtha when the Moon is in Punarvasu and Vishakha when it is in Mrigashira, so their star-level days fall about a day apart inside or next to that window.

Why does my calendar show Jyeshtha under Chandrashtama on only one day?

Daily panchangams list Chandrashtama by star: the day's entry names the stars whose 17th star the Moon is in. Jyeshtha appears while the Moon is in Punarvasu, about a day, whereas the Vrichigam Rasi window lasts about two and a quarter days.

Which Moon stars are weakest for Jyeshtha?

Naidhana tara, the weakest, comes when the Moon is in Shatabhisha, Ardra and Swati. Vipat (Purva Ashadha, Bharani and Purva Phalguni) and Pratyak (Shravana, Rohini and Hasta) are also unfavourable for starting new work.
