Shatabhisha Chandrashtama Days 2026-2027: Dates & Times
Chandrashtama is read two ways. By Janma Rasi, people born in Shatabhisha follow the Kumbam Rasi window, when the Moon passes through the 8th sign from Kumbam. Tamil daily panchangams also mark it by star: the day the Moon is in Hasta, the 17th star from Shatabhisha. This page lists both, for every month of 2026 and 2027.

Shatabhisha sits in the Kumbam Rasi, so the rasi window below is the Kumbam one; the star-level day is the Moon in Hasta.
Shatabhisha Nature: Known for healing, secrecy, and a vast, philosophical outlook.
Deity: Varuna

Hasta lies wholly inside Kanni, the sign the Moon occupies during this rasi window. So for Shatabhisha the two methods never disagree: the star-level day always falls within the rasi window and narrows it from about two and a quarter days to about one.

Tarabalam for Shatabhisha
Tarabalam rates any day by the star the Moon is in, counted from Shatabhisha. The count repeats every nine stars, so each of the nine taras comes from three Moon stars. Check the day's star in any panchangam and read its tara below.
- Janma (not good): when the Moon is in Shatabhisha, Ardra and Swati; the Moon is back in your own star; keep the day light.
- Sampat (very good): when the Moon is in Purva Bhadrapada, Punarvasu and Vishakha; wealth and gains.
- Vipat (bad): when the Moon is in Uttara Bhadrapada, Pushya and Anuradha; obstacles and losses.
- Kshema (good): when the Moon is in Revati, Ashlesha and Jyeshtha; well-being and safety.
- Pratyak (not good): when the Moon is in Ashwini, Magha and Mula; opposition and friction.
- Sadhaka (very good): when the Moon is in Bharani, Purva Phalguni and Purva Ashadha; achievement; good for starting work.
- Naidhana (totally bad): when the Moon is in Krittika, Uttara Phalguni and Uttara Ashadha; the weakest tara; avoid new beginnings.
- Mitra (good): when the Moon is in Rohini, Hasta and Shravana; friendship and support.
- Parama Mitra (good): when the Moon is in Mrigashira, Chitra and Dhanishta; the closest support.
During the rasi Chandrashtama window the tara for Shatabhisha is Naidhana, Mitra, Parama Mitra, the same every month.
How these times are calculated
All times are in IST, computed from the Moon's sidereal position with the Lahiri ayanamsa: the Thirukanitha method, the same basis Drik Panchang uses. Vakya panchangams, which many Tamil calendars still print, can differ by around 30 minutes at a star change. Days here run midnight to midnight; panchangams that start the day at sunrise show early-morning changes under the previous date.
Read our editorial policyShatabhisha Chandrashtama: common questions
Is Shatabhisha's Chandrashtama the same as Dhanishta's?
By rasi, yes: both follow the Kumbam Rasi window. By star, no: Tamil panchangams list Shatabhisha when the Moon is in Hasta and Dhanishta when it is in Uttara Phalguni, so their star-level days fall about a day apart inside or next to that window.
Why does my calendar show Shatabhisha under Chandrashtama on only one day?
Daily panchangams list Chandrashtama by star: the day's entry names the stars whose 17th star the Moon is in. Shatabhisha appears while the Moon is in Hasta, about a day, whereas the Kumbam Rasi window lasts about two and a quarter days.
Which Moon stars are weakest for Shatabhisha?
Naidhana tara, the weakest, comes when the Moon is in Krittika, Uttara Phalguni and Uttara Ashadha. Vipat (Uttara Bhadrapada, Pushya and Anuradha) and Pratyak (Ashwini, Magha and Mula) are also unfavourable for starting new work.
