Mula Chandrashtama Days 2026-2027: Dates & Times

Chandrashtama is read two ways. By Janma Rasi, people born in Mula follow the Dhanusu Rasi window, when the Moon passes through the 8th sign from Dhanusu. Tamil daily panchangams also mark it by star: the day the Moon is in Pushya, the 17th star from Mula. This page lists both, for every month of 2026 and 2027.

Mula nakshatra, which falls under the Dhanusu Rasi used for its Chandrashtama dates

Mula sits in the Dhanusu Rasi, so the rasi window below is the Dhanusu one; the star-level day is the Moon in Pushya.

Mula Nature: The root star, focused on foundational truths and deep investigation.

Pushya lies wholly inside Kadagam, the sign the Moon occupies during this rasi window. So for Mula the two methods never disagree: the star-level day always falls within the rasi window and narrows it from about two and a quarter days to about one.

Tarabalam for Mula

Tarabalam rates any day by the star the Moon is in, counted from Mula. The count repeats every nine stars, so each of the nine taras comes from three Moon stars. Check the day's star in any panchangam and read its tara below.

  1. Janma (not good): when the Moon is in Mula, Ashwini and Magha; the Moon is back in your own star; keep the day light.
  2. Sampat (very good): when the Moon is in Purva Ashadha, Bharani and Purva Phalguni; wealth and gains.
  3. Vipat (bad): when the Moon is in Uttara Ashadha, Krittika and Uttara Phalguni; obstacles and losses.
  4. Kshema (good): when the Moon is in Shravana, Rohini and Hasta; well-being and safety.
  5. Pratyak (not good): when the Moon is in Dhanishta, Mrigashira and Chitra; opposition and friction.
  6. Sadhaka (very good): when the Moon is in Shatabhisha, Ardra and Swati; achievement; good for starting work.
  7. Naidhana (totally bad): when the Moon is in Purva Bhadrapada, Punarvasu and Vishakha; the weakest tara; avoid new beginnings.
  8. Mitra (good): when the Moon is in Uttara Bhadrapada, Pushya and Anuradha; friendship and support.
  9. Parama Mitra (good): when the Moon is in Revati, Ashlesha and Jyeshtha; the closest support.

During the rasi Chandrashtama window the tara for Mula is Naidhana, Mitra, Parama Mitra, the same every month.

How these times are calculated

All times are in IST, computed from the Moon's sidereal position with the Lahiri ayanamsa: the Thirukanitha method, the same basis Drik Panchang uses. Vakya panchangams, which many Tamil calendars still print, can differ by around 30 minutes at a star change. Days here run midnight to midnight; panchangams that start the day at sunrise show early-morning changes under the previous date.

Mula Chandrashtama: common questions

Is Mula's Chandrashtama the same as Purva Ashadha's?

By rasi, yes: both follow the Dhanusu Rasi window. By star, no: Tamil panchangams list Mula when the Moon is in Pushya and Purva Ashadha when it is in Ashlesha, so their star-level days fall about a day apart inside or next to that window.

Why does my calendar show Mula under Chandrashtama on only one day?

Daily panchangams list Chandrashtama by star: the day's entry names the stars whose 17th star the Moon is in. Mula appears while the Moon is in Pushya, about a day, whereas the Dhanusu Rasi window lasts about two and a quarter days.

Which Moon stars are weakest for Mula?

Naidhana tara, the weakest, comes when the Moon is in Purva Bhadrapada, Punarvasu and Vishakha. Vipat (Uttara Ashadha, Krittika and Uttara Phalguni) and Pratyak (Dhanishta, Mrigashira and Chitra) are also unfavourable for starting new work.
