Purva Phalguni Chandrashtama Days 2026-2027: Dates & Times

Chandrashtama is read two ways. By Janma Rasi, people born in Purva Phalguni follow the Simmam Rasi window, when the Moon passes through the 8th sign from Simmam. Tamil daily panchangams also mark it by star: the day the Moon is in Revati, the 17th star from Purva Phalguni. This page lists both, for every month of 2026 and 2027.

Purva Phalguni nakshatra, which falls under the Simmam Rasi used for its Chandrashtama dates

Purva Phalguni sits in the Simmam Rasi, so the rasi window below is the Simmam one; the star-level day is the Moon in Revati.

Purva Phalguni Nature: Associated with relaxation, creative expression, and social joy.

Revati lies wholly inside Meenam, the sign the Moon occupies during this rasi window. So for Purva Phalguni the two methods never disagree: the star-level day always falls within the rasi window and narrows it from about two and a quarter days to about one.

Tarabalam for Purva Phalguni

Tarabalam rates any day by the star the Moon is in, counted from Purva Phalguni. The count repeats every nine stars, so each of the nine taras comes from three Moon stars. Check the day's star in any panchangam and read its tara below.

  1. Janma (not good): when the Moon is in Purva Phalguni, Purva Ashadha and Bharani; the Moon is back in your own star; keep the day light.
  2. Sampat (very good): when the Moon is in Uttara Phalguni, Uttara Ashadha and Krittika; wealth and gains.
  3. Vipat (bad): when the Moon is in Hasta, Shravana and Rohini; obstacles and losses.
  4. Kshema (good): when the Moon is in Chitra, Dhanishta and Mrigashira; well-being and safety.
  5. Pratyak (not good): when the Moon is in Swati, Shatabhisha and Ardra; opposition and friction.
  6. Sadhaka (very good): when the Moon is in Vishakha, Purva Bhadrapada and Punarvasu; achievement; good for starting work.
  7. Naidhana (totally bad): when the Moon is in Anuradha, Uttara Bhadrapada and Pushya; the weakest tara; avoid new beginnings.
  8. Mitra (good): when the Moon is in Jyeshtha, Revati and Ashlesha; friendship and support.
  9. Parama Mitra (good): when the Moon is in Mula, Ashwini and Magha; the closest support.

During the rasi Chandrashtama window the tara for Purva Phalguni is Sadhaka, Naidhana, Mitra, the same every month.

How these times are calculated

All times are in IST, computed from the Moon's sidereal position with the Lahiri ayanamsa: the Thirukanitha method, the same basis Drik Panchang uses. Vakya panchangams, which many Tamil calendars still print, can differ by around 30 minutes at a star change. Days here run midnight to midnight; panchangams that start the day at sunrise show early-morning changes under the previous date.

Purva Phalguni Chandrashtama: common questions

Is Purva Phalguni's Chandrashtama the same as Magha's?

By rasi, yes: both follow the Simmam Rasi window. By star, no: Tamil panchangams list Purva Phalguni when the Moon is in Revati and Magha when it is in Uttara Bhadrapada, so their star-level days fall about a day apart inside or next to that window.

Why does my calendar show Purva Phalguni under Chandrashtama on only one day?

Daily panchangams list Chandrashtama by star: the day's entry names the stars whose 17th star the Moon is in. Purva Phalguni appears while the Moon is in Revati, about a day, whereas the Simmam Rasi window lasts about two and a quarter days.

Which Moon stars are weakest for Purva Phalguni?

Naidhana tara, the weakest, comes when the Moon is in Anuradha, Uttara Bhadrapada and Pushya. Vipat (Hasta, Shravana and Rohini) and Pratyak (Swati, Shatabhisha and Ardra) are also unfavourable for starting new work.
