Bharani Chandrashtama Days 2026-2027: Dates & Times
Chandrashtama is read two ways. By Janma Rasi, people born in Bharani follow the Mesha Rasi window, when the Moon passes through the 8th sign from Mesha. Tamil daily panchangams also mark it by star: the day the Moon is in Jyeshtha, the 17th star from Bharani. This page lists both, for every month of 2026 and 2027.

Bharani sits in the Mesha Rasi, so the rasi window below is the Mesha one; the star-level day is the Moon in Jyeshtha.
Bharani Nature: Symbolizes transformation, discipline, and the power to endure struggles.
Deity: Yama

Jyeshtha lies wholly inside Vrichigam, the sign the Moon occupies during this rasi window. So for Bharani the two methods never disagree: the star-level day always falls within the rasi window and narrows it from about two and a quarter days to about one.

Tarabalam for Bharani
Tarabalam rates any day by the star the Moon is in, counted from Bharani. The count repeats every nine stars, so each of the nine taras comes from three Moon stars. Check the day's star in any panchangam and read its tara below.
- Janma (not good): when the Moon is in Bharani, Purva Phalguni and Purva Ashadha; the Moon is back in your own star; keep the day light.
- Sampat (very good): when the Moon is in Krittika, Uttara Phalguni and Uttara Ashadha; wealth and gains.
- Vipat (bad): when the Moon is in Rohini, Hasta and Shravana; obstacles and losses.
- Kshema (good): when the Moon is in Mrigashira, Chitra and Dhanishta; well-being and safety.
- Pratyak (not good): when the Moon is in Ardra, Swati and Shatabhisha; opposition and friction.
- Sadhaka (very good): when the Moon is in Punarvasu, Vishakha and Purva Bhadrapada; achievement; good for starting work.
- Naidhana (totally bad): when the Moon is in Pushya, Anuradha and Uttara Bhadrapada; the weakest tara; avoid new beginnings.
- Mitra (good): when the Moon is in Ashlesha, Jyeshtha and Revati; friendship and support.
- Parama Mitra (good): when the Moon is in Magha, Mula and Ashwini; the closest support.
During the rasi Chandrashtama window the tara for Bharani is Sadhaka, Naidhana, Mitra, the same every month.
How these times are calculated
All times are in IST, computed from the Moon's sidereal position with the Lahiri ayanamsa: the Thirukanitha method, the same basis Drik Panchang uses. Vakya panchangams, which many Tamil calendars still print, can differ by around 30 minutes at a star change. Days here run midnight to midnight; panchangams that start the day at sunrise show early-morning changes under the previous date.
Read our editorial policyBharani Chandrashtama: common questions
Is Bharani's Chandrashtama the same as Ashwini's?
By rasi, yes: both follow the Mesha Rasi window. By star, no: Tamil panchangams list Bharani when the Moon is in Jyeshtha and Ashwini when it is in Anuradha, so their star-level days fall about a day apart inside or next to that window.
Why does my calendar show Bharani under Chandrashtama on only one day?
Daily panchangams list Chandrashtama by star: the day's entry names the stars whose 17th star the Moon is in. Bharani appears while the Moon is in Jyeshtha, about a day, whereas the Mesha Rasi window lasts about two and a quarter days.
Which Moon stars are weakest for Bharani?
Naidhana tara, the weakest, comes when the Moon is in Pushya, Anuradha and Uttara Bhadrapada. Vipat (Rohini, Hasta and Shravana) and Pratyak (Ardra, Swati and Shatabhisha) are also unfavourable for starting new work.
