Ashlesha Chandrashtama Days 2026-2027: Dates & Times

Chandrashtama is read two ways. By Janma Rasi, people born in Ashlesha follow the Kadagam Rasi window, when the Moon passes through the 8th sign from Kadagam. Tamil daily panchangams also mark it by star: the day the Moon is in Purva Bhadrapada, the 17th star from Ashlesha. This page lists both, for every month of 2026 and 2027.

Ashlesha nakshatra, which falls under the Kadagam Rasi used for its Chandrashtama dates

Ashlesha sits in the Kadagam Rasi, so the rasi window below is the Kadagam one; the star-level day is the Moon in Purva Bhadrapada.

Ashlesha Nature: Symbolizes deep insight, intuition, and a protective, intense nature.

Deity: Nagas

Purva Bhadrapada starts inside Kumbam, the sign the Moon occupies during this rasi window, and runs a few degrees past its end. So for Ashlesha the star-level day begins inside the rasi window and carries on for about 6 hours after it closes; those extra hours are flagged only by star-based calendars.

Tarabalam for Ashlesha

Tarabalam rates any day by the star the Moon is in, counted from Ashlesha. The count repeats every nine stars, so each of the nine taras comes from three Moon stars. Check the day's star in any panchangam and read its tara below.

  1. Janma (not good): when the Moon is in Ashlesha, Jyeshtha and Revati; the Moon is back in your own star; keep the day light.
  2. Sampat (very good): when the Moon is in Magha, Mula and Ashwini; wealth and gains.
  3. Vipat (bad): when the Moon is in Purva Phalguni, Purva Ashadha and Bharani; obstacles and losses.
  4. Kshema (good): when the Moon is in Uttara Phalguni, Uttara Ashadha and Krittika; well-being and safety.
  5. Pratyak (not good): when the Moon is in Hasta, Shravana and Rohini; opposition and friction.
  6. Sadhaka (very good): when the Moon is in Chitra, Dhanishta and Mrigashira; achievement; good for starting work.
  7. Naidhana (totally bad): when the Moon is in Swati, Shatabhisha and Ardra; the weakest tara; avoid new beginnings.
  8. Mitra (good): when the Moon is in Vishakha, Purva Bhadrapada and Punarvasu; friendship and support.
  9. Parama Mitra (good): when the Moon is in Anuradha, Uttara Bhadrapada and Pushya; the closest support.

During the rasi Chandrashtama window the tara for Ashlesha is Sadhaka, Naidhana, Mitra, the same every month.

How these times are calculated

All times are in IST, computed from the Moon's sidereal position with the Lahiri ayanamsa: the Thirukanitha method, the same basis Drik Panchang uses. Vakya panchangams, which many Tamil calendars still print, can differ by around 30 minutes at a star change. Days here run midnight to midnight; panchangams that start the day at sunrise show early-morning changes under the previous date.

Ashlesha Chandrashtama: common questions

Is Ashlesha's Chandrashtama the same as Punarvasu's?

By rasi, yes: both follow the Kadagam Rasi window. By star, no: Tamil panchangams list Ashlesha when the Moon is in Purva Bhadrapada and Punarvasu when it is in Dhanishta, so their star-level days fall about a day apart inside or next to that window.

Why does my calendar show Ashlesha under Chandrashtama on only one day?

Daily panchangams list Chandrashtama by star: the day's entry names the stars whose 17th star the Moon is in. Ashlesha appears while the Moon is in Purva Bhadrapada, about a day, whereas the Kadagam Rasi window lasts about two and a quarter days.

Which Moon stars are weakest for Ashlesha?

Naidhana tara, the weakest, comes when the Moon is in Swati, Shatabhisha and Ardra. Vipat (Purva Phalguni, Purva Ashadha and Bharani) and Pratyak (Hasta, Shravana and Rohini) are also unfavourable for starting new work.
