Hasta Chandrashtama Days 2026-2027: Dates & Times

Chandrashtama is read two ways. By Janma Rasi, people born in Hasta follow the Kanni Rasi window, when the Moon passes through the 8th sign from Kanni. Tamil daily panchangams also mark it by star: the day the Moon is in Bharani, the 17th star from Hasta. This page lists both, for every month of 2026 and 2027.

Hasta nakshatra, which falls under the Kanni Rasi used for its Chandrashtama dates

Hasta sits in the Kanni Rasi, so the rasi window below is the Kanni one; the star-level day is the Moon in Bharani.

Hasta Nature: Represents craftsmanship, precision, and the power of the hands.

Deity: Savitri

Bharani lies wholly inside Mesha, the sign the Moon occupies during this rasi window. So for Hasta the two methods never disagree: the star-level day always falls within the rasi window and narrows it from about two and a quarter days to about one.

Tarabalam for Hasta

Tarabalam rates any day by the star the Moon is in, counted from Hasta. The count repeats every nine stars, so each of the nine taras comes from three Moon stars. Check the day's star in any panchangam and read its tara below.

  1. Janma (not good): when the Moon is in Hasta, Shravana and Rohini; the Moon is back in your own star; keep the day light.
  2. Sampat (very good): when the Moon is in Chitra, Dhanishta and Mrigashira; wealth and gains.
  3. Vipat (bad): when the Moon is in Swati, Shatabhisha and Ardra; obstacles and losses.
  4. Kshema (good): when the Moon is in Vishakha, Purva Bhadrapada and Punarvasu; well-being and safety.
  5. Pratyak (not good): when the Moon is in Anuradha, Uttara Bhadrapada and Pushya; opposition and friction.
  6. Sadhaka (very good): when the Moon is in Jyeshtha, Revati and Ashlesha; achievement; good for starting work.
  7. Naidhana (totally bad): when the Moon is in Mula, Ashwini and Magha; the weakest tara; avoid new beginnings.
  8. Mitra (good): when the Moon is in Purva Ashadha, Bharani and Purva Phalguni; friendship and support.
  9. Parama Mitra (good): when the Moon is in Uttara Ashadha, Krittika and Uttara Phalguni; the closest support.

During the rasi Chandrashtama window the tara for Hasta is Naidhana, Mitra, Parama Mitra, the same every month.

How these times are calculated

All times are in IST, computed from the Moon's sidereal position with the Lahiri ayanamsa: the Thirukanitha method, the same basis Drik Panchang uses. Vakya panchangams, which many Tamil calendars still print, can differ by around 30 minutes at a star change. Days here run midnight to midnight; panchangams that start the day at sunrise show early-morning changes under the previous date.

Hasta Chandrashtama: common questions

Is Hasta's Chandrashtama the same as Uttara Phalguni's?

By rasi, yes: both follow the Kanni Rasi window. By star, no: Tamil panchangams list Hasta when the Moon is in Bharani and Uttara Phalguni when it is in Ashwini, so their star-level days fall about a day apart inside or next to that window.

Why does my calendar show Hasta under Chandrashtama on only one day?

Daily panchangams list Chandrashtama by star: the day's entry names the stars whose 17th star the Moon is in. Hasta appears while the Moon is in Bharani, about a day, whereas the Kanni Rasi window lasts about two and a quarter days.

Which Moon stars are weakest for Hasta?

Naidhana tara, the weakest, comes when the Moon is in Mula, Ashwini and Magha. Vipat (Swati, Shatabhisha and Ardra) and Pratyak (Anuradha, Uttara Bhadrapada and Pushya) are also unfavourable for starting new work.
