Pushya Chandrashtama Days 2026-2027: Dates & Times

Chandrashtama is read two ways. By Janma Rasi, people born in Pushya follow the Kadagam Rasi window, when the Moon passes through the 8th sign from Kadagam. Tamil daily panchangams also mark it by star: the day the Moon is in Shatabhisha, the 17th star from Pushya. This page lists both, for every month of 2026 and 2027.

Pushya nakshatra, which falls under the Kadagam Rasi used for its Chandrashtama dates

Pushya sits in the Kadagam Rasi, so the rasi window below is the Kadagam one; the star-level day is the Moon in Shatabhisha.

Pushya Nature: The most auspicious star for nourishment, wisdom, and spiritual growth.

Deity: Brihaspati

Shatabhisha lies wholly inside Kumbam, the sign the Moon occupies during this rasi window. So for Pushya the two methods never disagree: the star-level day always falls within the rasi window and narrows it from about two and a quarter days to about one.

Tarabalam for Pushya

Tarabalam rates any day by the star the Moon is in, counted from Pushya. The count repeats every nine stars, so each of the nine taras comes from three Moon stars. Check the day's star in any panchangam and read its tara below.

  1. Janma (not good): when the Moon is in Pushya, Anuradha and Uttara Bhadrapada; the Moon is back in your own star; keep the day light.
  2. Sampat (very good): when the Moon is in Ashlesha, Jyeshtha and Revati; wealth and gains.
  3. Vipat (bad): when the Moon is in Magha, Mula and Ashwini; obstacles and losses.
  4. Kshema (good): when the Moon is in Purva Phalguni, Purva Ashadha and Bharani; well-being and safety.
  5. Pratyak (not good): when the Moon is in Uttara Phalguni, Uttara Ashadha and Krittika; opposition and friction.
  6. Sadhaka (very good): when the Moon is in Hasta, Shravana and Rohini; achievement; good for starting work.
  7. Naidhana (totally bad): when the Moon is in Chitra, Dhanishta and Mrigashira; the weakest tara; avoid new beginnings.
  8. Mitra (good): when the Moon is in Swati, Shatabhisha and Ardra; friendship and support.
  9. Parama Mitra (good): when the Moon is in Vishakha, Purva Bhadrapada and Punarvasu; the closest support.

During the rasi Chandrashtama window the tara for Pushya is Naidhana, Mitra, Parama Mitra, the same every month.

How these times are calculated

All times are in IST, computed from the Moon's sidereal position with the Lahiri ayanamsa: the Thirukanitha method, the same basis Drik Panchang uses. Vakya panchangams, which many Tamil calendars still print, can differ by around 30 minutes at a star change. Days here run midnight to midnight; panchangams that start the day at sunrise show early-morning changes under the previous date.

Pushya Chandrashtama: common questions

Is Pushya's Chandrashtama the same as Punarvasu's?

By rasi, yes: both follow the Kadagam Rasi window. By star, no: Tamil panchangams list Pushya when the Moon is in Shatabhisha and Punarvasu when it is in Dhanishta, so their star-level days fall about a day apart inside or next to that window.

Why does my calendar show Pushya under Chandrashtama on only one day?

Daily panchangams list Chandrashtama by star: the day's entry names the stars whose 17th star the Moon is in. Pushya appears while the Moon is in Shatabhisha, about a day, whereas the Kadagam Rasi window lasts about two and a quarter days.

Which Moon stars are weakest for Pushya?

Naidhana tara, the weakest, comes when the Moon is in Chitra, Dhanishta and Mrigashira. Vipat (Magha, Mula and Ashwini) and Pratyak (Uttara Phalguni, Uttara Ashadha and Krittika) are also unfavourable for starting new work.
